Competition entries
Entrants must be from New Zealand or currently live in New Zealand. Images may be taken anywhere. All genres and experience levels are welcome. An active digital or digital + print membership is required at submission. One entry per account and person is allowed for each monthly round.
The round must be open when the entry is received. Its deadline and information about [ Faber] judging the images will appear on the competition page before entries open.
Submit your own finished photograph and the corresponding original RAW file. You must hold the rights and any necessary permissions for publication. Disclose editing, including AI-assisted tools. Ordinary adjustments are welcome; AI-generated images and generatively added or replaced subjects are not eligible. Faber may request clarification or decline an entry that cannot be verified.
[ Faber] will be judging the images on the strength of each photograph and its story. Entry does not guarantee publication or a cover. Selected photographers will be contacted by email.
First-issue selection and cumulative prizes
Your image could feature in Faber’s first issue. We’ll select 25+ submitted images for publication, alongside our winner and runners-up. Include a thoughtful short description with your entry so we can share the story behind your photograph if it’s selected.
[ Faber] will be judging the images and selecting the winner and two runners-up. The winner receives the base prize plus every subscriber milestone reached by the cutoff. View the prize structure.
Issue 01 · Pacific/Auckland time
First-issue orders close Sunday 25 October 2026 at 11:59 pm.
First-issue orders close Sunday 25 October at 11:59 pm. The winner and runners-up will be announced Sunday 1 November at 6 pm, after all entries have been reviewed.
Print and digital subscriptions both count. Your first magazine is Issue 01. Entries close at the same time on 25 October 2026. Payment must succeed by the order cutoff; late initial payments are refunded and the new subscription cancelled.
The subscriber count starts at zero and counts distinct Stripe customers with qualifying successful live digital or print payments within the configured first-issue campaign. Each customer counts once; renewals and delivery add-ons do not add another subscriber. Existing customer arrangements remain unchanged. The eligibility rules below determine which paid customers count. Free accounts, unsuccessful or unpaid payments, test payments and unrelated products do not count. A qualifying paid period must cover the snapshot time. Scheduled cancellation leaves eligibility through the paid period; immediate cancellation removes that subscription at its Stripe ended-at time. Any successful partial or full refund removes that invoice’s purchase from eligibility; another unrefunded qualifying purchase can still keep the customer eligible. Refunds initiated by the cutoff and confirmed successful during reconciliation can reduce the final count while settling afterward. Later refunds and cancellations do not change the final subscriber count.
Payment must succeed by the order cutoff. New checkout is unavailable at or after the cutoff. If a previously opened checkout finishes payment late, its first-issue order is not accepted: its initial payment is refunded and the newly created subscription cancelled. Existing subscribers’ later renewals are not affected. Stripe can take time to complete a refund; contact Faber for help. Delayed webhooks are checked against actual payment timestamps. The count remains provisional through full reconciliation and at least 24 hours of settlement checks, with two consistent complete scans before freezing.
The entry opening time and deadline are configured independently and shown before entries open. Entry does not guarantee publication. The required image story and publication consent are stored with your credited name, verified contact details and image links for private review. Suggested story length is 50–150 words.
Copyright and publication
You retain copyright. If selected, you give Faber non-exclusive permission to reproduce your finished image, submitted credit information and story in the print and digital issue, on the Faber website, and in promotion of that issue, with your credit. Published issues and related archives can remain available. Faber will ask separately before using your work for unrelated purposes. We do not sell your image to third parties or share your RAW file with sponsors.
Your RAW link is supplied for private editorial verification. Contact us if you need to withdraw an entry before selection; work already printed or distributed cannot be recalled. Interviews and filmed conversations will be arranged directly with you.
Prize images and details
Filter, backpack and case images are examples; choose a camera backpack or hard case. Final models and compatible size will be chosen for the winner. Product photography from Photo Warehouse and Roadcases NZ; case branding removed for this preview.
The winner receives one carry option: a camera backpack or a hard case. The 1,000-subscriber addition is a tripod kit or a Tough V60 SD card. Prize additions are cumulative at the subscriber milestones shown on the prize page. At 2,000 paid subscribers, the winner may replace the Sony lens and camera body together with a NZ$7,500 retailer gift card for gear compatible with their current camera brand. This replaces those two items; all other reached prizes remain included.
Accounts and memberships
Creating an account is free and does not start a subscription. Competition access requires an active paid membership. Digital membership is NZ$9.99 per month; print membership, which includes digital, is NZ$19.99 per month. Print membership adds the physical edition. Both plans have the same competition privileges.
The first issue is in development. First-issue subscriptions are offered only before the order cutoff; no later-issue checkout is currently offered. Issue 01 is a pre-order. After judging, we’ll finish the magazine and send it to print. Printing is expected to take one week, followed by delivery to Faber, packing and dispatch through NZ Post standard shipping. We’ll email the digital edition to both print and digital customers one or two days after the print parcels are lodged with NZ Post. Postal delivery times vary; print and digital may arrive on different days. Standard NZ shipping is included; rural delivery is NZ$5 extra per issue. Print checkout is for NZ delivery. Your Stripe checkout will show the amount and when billing starts. Paid subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled.
You may cancel future renewals through the management link provided in your Stripe emails or by contacting Faber. For questions about a charge, an undelivered issue or a refund, contact us so we can resolve it. Creating an account or entering a photograph does not sign you up for unrelated marketing.
