Fine print
Terms.
Written to be read, not to hide anything. Three parts: the competition, the subscription, and what happens to your information.
1 / Competition
The monthly photography competition
1.1
Entry is open to anyone aged 16 or over with an active print subscription to FABER at the time the round closes. Entrants under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent, which we may ask to see before publishing.
1.2
One photograph per person, per round. The photograph must be taken by the entrant within the Wellington region.
1.3
There is no entry fee beyond the subscription. This is a competition of skill; there is no element of chance, and nothing here is a game of chance under the Gambling Act 2003.
1.4
Entrants must own the copyright in the photograph and must have obtained any consent needed from identifiable people in it, and from the owner of any private property it was taken on.
1.5
Fully AI-generated images are not eligible. Ordinary editing, retouching and compositing of the entrant's own work is fine.
1.6
Licence. You keep the copyright in your photograph. By entering, you grant FABER a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to reproduce the photograph in the magazine (print and PDF), on this website, and in promotion of the issue it appears in, in perpetuity and always with your credit. The licence is limited to those uses. It is not exclusive, it does not stop you licensing, selling or posting the image anywhere else, and it does not let us sell your image on to a third party or use it in someone else's advertising without asking you separately.
1.7
Judging is by the editor and any guest judge announced for that round. The decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into about placings.
1.8
Prizes are supplied by the month's sponsoring business, are not transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash. If a sponsor fails to supply a prize we will say so publicly and substitute something of similar value where we can.
1.9
Winners are contacted by email before the issue goes to print. If a winner cannot be reached within five days, the placing may pass to the next entrant.
1.10
Entries that are defamatory, unlawful, or that depict a person in a way likely to cause them serious harm or distress will be excluded without refund of that month's subscription.
2 / Subscriptions
Subscription terms
2.1
Subscriptions are monthly and renew automatically until cancelled. Your first month is charged when you subscribe, and each month after that on the same date. Prices are in New Zealand dollars. You can downgrade or cancel at any time from the link in any receipt.
2.2
Print subscriptions include delivery within New Zealand. Overseas delivery is by arrangement only.
2.3
Subscriptions have to be in before that month's press date, the last Sunday of the month, to be included in that issue. Subscribe after it and your first issue is the following month's.
2.4
You can cancel at any time from the link in any Stripe receipt, or by emailing us. Cancelling stops the next charge. We do not refund part-months, but you receive any issue already printed for you.
2.5
The student rate requires a current student email address or proof of enrolment, and is re-checked annually. If it can't be verified we will contact you before the next charge rather than simply cancelling you.
2.6
If an issue is not published in a given month, that month is not charged.
2.7
Payments are processed by Stripe. FABER does not receive or store your card details.
2.8
Directory listings are booked per issue and are not part of the subscription. Listing copy is subject to available space and to the editor's discretion; anything we can't run is refunded.
2.9
Founding members. The founding offer is $10 for your first month, then $25 a month. It is open to anyone who subscribes before Issue .00 goes to press, and includes a hand-numbered copy of Volume One. One per person. You can cancel after the first month and keep the issue you were sent. That is the offer, not a loophole. Once Issue .00 has gone to print the offer closes and the standard $25 rate applies.
2.10
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
3 / Privacy
What we do with your information
3.1
We collect only what we need to send you a magazine and talk to you about it: your name, email address, postal address, and anything you choose to tell us in a form.
3.2
Payment and card information is handled entirely by Stripe under their own privacy terms. We see the last four digits and nothing more.
3.3
We do not sell, rent or trade your details, and we do not send marketing on behalf of anybody else.
3.4
Directory listings are published because the person listed asked us to publish them. Nobody's contact details go in the magazine without them booking it.
3.5
If you nominate somebody for a feature, we contact them and tell them who suggested it unless you ask us not to.
3.6
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email us and we'll do it.
3.7
Email. Subscribing means we will email you about your own subscription: dispatch, competition results, anything about the issue you have paid for. We only add you to the general FABER mailing list if you choose that option at checkout, and every one of those emails has a one-click unsubscribe. We do not pass your address to anyone else.
3.8
This site uses privacy-respecting analytics to count page visits. It does not build a profile of you and there are no advertising trackers on it.
